Max and Ella in Africa – Part 3

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Greetings Pandas,

We’re fully recovered after our trials and tribulations in the African Sahara. Just happy to be alive, we decided to celebrate with a safari tour the very next day!

We saw so many animals on the safari!

Just five minutes after the tour began we saw a giraffe from the jeep. They are humongous! Have any of your Pandas ever seen one at a zoo? Also, did you know that giraffes have black tongues? They’re long and funny-looking, but I don’t know why they are black.

After driving a short distance through the plains, we saw a great herd of antelope drinking at a watering hole. Those are such graceful animals. They can jump very high when they’re running.

I felt better sitting inside the car and observing all the animals from a safe distance. Giraffes may be nice and gentle, but a hungry lion? There’s no way I want be in close contact with him! Also, water buffaloes are supposed to be very aggressive creatures.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but nothing happened, did it? It was really amazing to see all that Africa has to offer. And I don’t just mean giraffes, lions and elephants, but also the smaller critters – like cobras and scorpions!

We spent the night in a tent, and I’m not going to lie – I was scared! Just think of all the things crawling out there! Not to mention all of the diseases! Needless to say, we did not drink the water and I didn’t get a good night’s sleep that night!

Max, you’re scared of everything.

Me?! You’re the one that let out a little gasp every time anything in the tent moved!

There’s a reason for that! Let me explain: After an exhausting day we were all dead tired and ready to go to sleep. Before I could even close my eyes, I heard a rustle in the distance. It was a strange noise that I had never heard before. I couldn’t even think about sleeping anymore. We layed in our tent with eyes wide open, listening for the sound. It came closer and closer. Suddenly there was a shadow on our tent the size of our safari jeep. Max and I looked towards each other…

I could hear my heart thumping wildly in my chest. We had to get out of there. Very quietly, we unzipped our tent and slid out unnoticed. After that, well, I don’t want to spoil it now. We’ll tell you how it went on Monday!

Be good Pandas,

Max and Ella
