Pursuing the Pompoms

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Happy weekend Pandas,

Max, Kamaria, and I have been busy cooking up some delicious carrot soup. Why carrot soup? you may ask. Well, that just happens to be the favorite food of the shy, but lovable Pompoms. They are lost and we need to lure them in with something…

I’ve already found six of them! How’s your luck been? I can’t wait to get that prize from Carl!

Max, you’ll have to find more than that. I’ve already collected eight!

Be good Pandas,

Max and Ella

P.S. – Something is a bit funny. Yesterday I saw the Wooby leader in the castle. He tried to hide himself behind the candy machine, but couldn’t really fit.  What do you think he’s up to?

Carl Caruso has a bad day

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Uh oh…

Well, it seems that some of you have already received your prizes from Carl Caruso, despite the fact that he said he’d be giving them out on Sunday. Poor guy.

Yeah, it appears that he is so upset about the missing Pompoms that he went absolutley hysterical this morning when he thought that some Pandas had found them all. But there are more Pompoms left out there in the vastness of Panfu and they still need help being found. For those of you who already got the prize, don’t worry, you’ll be able to keep it.

So keep your eye out for those Pompoms. Hopefully Carl will be better on Sunday, so you can drop by the cave and bring him some Pompoms to cheer him up. At the moment he is on strict watch at Kamaria’s. She gave him some sort of crushed leaf mixture to calm him down.

Ella’s unfortunate allergy

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Hey Pandas,

It can’t be that hard!

Max, you can’t lure in a Pompom with a hot dog. That only worked with the eel.

Well, one can try. I went around Panfu this morning hiding little pieces of hot dog in the bushes, around the trees – wherever I think a Pompom might be hiding. Maybe they like them just as much as the eel did?

You obviously didn’t listen to Carl.  The Pompoms’ favorite treat is carrot soup. Kamaria prepared a big batch yesterday, but it didn’t seem to work. The poor little creatures have such a bad sense of direction that they probably had no idea how to get to it!

We spotted one yesterday in the jungle. It was curled up, hiding behind the Info-Point. Every time Ella and I took one step forward, it took two back. We have to think of something to catch them!

Max had the idea that one of us would sneak up behind while the other distracted it…but it’s not like Pandas are too great at sneaking. We are kind of big, after all.

I snuck up very quitely on tippy toes until I was directly behind the Pompom. I started counting…one…two…just one step away! But then:

Achoooo!!!

Ella!! Her sneeze scared the dickens out of the poor little Pompom and it scampered away up a tree. There’s no way we would catch it.

Sorry! It’s not my fault that I’m allergic to Pompoms!

Let’s get back to the great Pompom search. Tell us where you find them and how many you have!

The Pompoms are here here!

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Hello Pandas,

You seem to be in a good mood today, Max.

Of course I am! This is the first Monday we’ve spent in Panfu in quite a while. I’ve missed being able to write about the cool new happenings in Panfu!

You’re right – no one can spread news like we can. And today we’ve got something pretty exciting…

The POMPOMS are here!

Right-o, Maxy-boy. The tiny, cuddly little critters were brought over by Carl Caruso during his last adventure. The poor things are endangered and could become extinct soon. But luckily Carl was able to rescue ten and bring them to safety in Panfu. Well, until last night…

That Indiana Jones wannabe really can’t do anything right.

Max! Don’t always get so defensive! He can really pull off the hat quite well.

Okay, you have a point. But still, Carl got in over his head when he tried to babysit the Pompoms. Long story short, they are all missing now and we need your help to find them. Go look for Carl – I saw him a while ago in the jungle. He’ll tell you more.

Here’s a little picture, so you know what they look like:

Hey Max, I just got a text message from Carl. He wants to tryand catch them on his own today. Maybe he has some clever idea on how to do it.

That guy wouldn’t be able to spot an elephant in Antarctica…I doubt he can do it by himself. We’ll see…

Max’s guide to eel avoidance

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Happy weekend Pandas,

I told you yesterday about my scary experience luring the eel in with a hot dog and then getting dragged around the entire school by the giant, slimy beast. I was feeling pretty bad when…PLOP. Something fell in the water. What now? Whatever it was, the eel quickly lost interest in me, spit out the hook, and swam over to it.

It was a hot dog! I threw it in the water to distract the eel.

Great idea!

I’m full of ‘em!

Well, you did a good job. The eel raced over to the hot dog and totally ignored me. I think I saw it smacking its little eel lips. It didn’t even look so scary anymore – more satisfied than anything.

Ever since Max went through this episode with the eel, he knows exactly how to trick it.

I simply throw a hot dog in the water before I go diving. But only one. I don’t want the eel getting overweight and unhealthy. No animal should have to go through that. Once it starts making little bubbles, I know that it is full and will not bother me at all. Clever, don’t you think?

Wurst-case scenario

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Howdy Pandas,

So…you don’t appear to be too scared about the creepy eel lurking by the underwater school.

I read your comments and did some research. You were right – eels are predators and like to eat other fish and meat in general. So after I tried the pizza, gummy bears and cake as bait with no success, I decided to use a hot dog. If eels really do like meat, what could be better than a juicy hot dog? I cut off a piece, stuck it onto my hook, waited, waited…and SNAP! The eel took the bait!

But as soon as the eel noticed something was funny it swam away as fast as lighting with the hot dog and hook still in its mouth – and Max holding onto the rod!

It was terrifying! The eel pulled so hard on the hook that I fell with a lurch into the water. I held on for my dear life as the eel circled the school in a frenzy. It was like a carousel on overdrive! I felt really sick! Then someone threw something into the water and the eel scurried off to pay attention to it.

Max! The toilet’s overflowing again!

Ah, gotta go! I’ll tell you the rest tomorrow!

Tackle Debacle

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Good morning Pandas,

I think it’s pretty cool that soon all Pandas will get to go to the underwater school! Then we can all learn to our little Panda hearts’ content. Well, almost everyone…Max is still nervous about the diving part.

Of course I am! Have you spotted the mean-looking eel hiding next to the school? I had my underwater camera with me the last time I went diving and took this photo:

moräne_schule

And ever since then, Max refuses to go back into the water. He just sits on the deck and goes fishing instead.

I’ve got to lure him in somehow! I’ll catch him and then I’ll be able to dive again worry-free, without having to wonder if an eel is going to bite my leg off. I just don’t know what exactly to use as bait. I already tried a piece of cake, pizza, and gummy bears, but the eel didn’t seem to want any of that. What does an eel eat? Any of you Pandas know?

I don’t know if this is going to work…

Be good Pandas,

Max and Ella
