These things happen…

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Hello Pandas,

Oh no! You wouldn’t believe what happened to me. I was supposed to take care of Carl Caruso’s Pompoms over the weekend and…well…they’re gone! I can’t believe it – I spent all that time building Pompom furniture and making carrot soup just for them. No appreciation!

Ella, this kind of thing could happen to anyone.

I guess so. As I told you yesterday, Carl Caruso wanted to pay a visit to his grandpa and asked me to take care of his Pompoms while he was gone. I didn’t think it would be so hard. I never knew that they were such fans of roasted apples…

Back up, Ella: just so you Pandas know, Kamaria invited Ella and me to dinner. When I went to pick up Ella, she was still in her PJs. Typical. So I had to help her pick out just the right outfit. She wanted to wear her yellow pantsuit, but it’s a good thing I was around to convince her that my grandma wouldn’t be caught dead in that and a certain blue dress did a fabulous job matching her eyes and bringing out the blond tones in her hair.

Sometimes I wish I had a little Ella figure to dress up so I would know how things look on me. You know what I mean? The kind you can cut out and dress with whatever you want. Then I wouldn’t need your help all the time, Max.

Anyways, I wasn’t feeling too well and spent entirely too much time in the bathroom, regretting all those raw vegetables I munched on while making the carrot soup. Let’s just say it wasn’t a pretty picture. I had to open a window in the bathroom to let some fresh air in and could already smell the roasted apples Kamaria had baking in the oven. I went back out to get dressed and then noticed it was awfully quiet. I looked around for the Pompoms – and then I knew – they had hopped out the window to escape the bathroom stench and get their grubby little paws on some roasted apples!

What are we going to do with all this carrot soup? Good thing that Carl’s coming back tomorrow. We might need your help on the search though, Pandas. We’ll keep you informed!

Ella’s French Obsession

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Happy Sunday!

Did you all find the funny ketchup and fries outfits? Ella refuses to take off the French fry outfit. She keeps talking about oat cute tors or something like that…

Max, it happens to be French and is pronounced haute couture. That’s when popular designers make custom-tailored outfits. Usually, the clothes are a bit unusual and look more like pieces of art than clothing. And I think Lili Panphung’s fry costume definitely qualifies as haute couture! When I wear it and walk around Panfu, I feel like I am on Coco Chanel’s catwalk.

Coco who’s cat what?

Coco Chanel! She’s a famous French designer. And the catwalk is the runway models walk down when presenting new designs. Max, you have a thing or two yet to learn. Whoops! Look at the time! I’ve got to get over to Carl Caruso.

What?! What do you want with him?

He’s going to go visit his grandpa today and I’m in charge of taking care of his Pompoms. I just couldn’t say no – they’re so cute and cuddly!

I’ve already re-designed my tree house to make it more comfortable for the little fellows. And also made a delicious carrot soup. They’ll love it! Gotta go!

Fry Surprise

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Good morning Pandas!

Today is Fry Day, woohoo! Everyone should go visit Bruno in his restaurant. He loves to meet new people and today he’s giving a way awesome French fry outfits! It’ll be awesome!

I got my outfit one day earlier since I helped Bruno with all the decorations. I just couldn’t wait another second and tried it on in front of Max. I sprang out from behind the changing curtain and announced “Tadaa!”.

I thought I was looking pretty good, so didn’t expect the reaction I got from Max: he doubled over and started laughing so hard that tears soon started to roll down his cheeks.

I had to laugh! You looked so funny! I mean, come on, Ella. It’s a package of fries!

Well, for your information, this outfit happens to be one of the creations of Lili Panphung, Panfu’s own designer.

Don’t worry, I’ll be wearing my outfit today too. Let’s put them on and cel-a-brate!

Max’s red scare

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Dear Pandas,

It’s the middle of the afternoon and I’m already knackered!

Ha ha! Max, relax! Nothing even happened!

Thankfully! That scare really had me going. Just the thought of it gives my Panda skin little goosebumps.

I think it was pretty funny. Are you Pandas wondering why Max is all hot and bothered? I’ll explain: Today I got up really early to help Bruno get ready for the anniversary celebration. We cooked up tons of tomatoes. Max wanted to pick me up afterwards so we could go to school together and sure enough, at eight on the dot he knocked on the door. I was in a hurry because I didn’t want to be late.

As I opened the door and was about to say hi to Max, he turned suddenly very pale and got a very odd look on his face. It looked as though he had seen a ghost! And then he fainted!

I ran back to the kitchen and got a glass of cold water to splash into his face. He came to and started mumbling something like ‘Ella…El…what is that on your apron? Is that blood?’

I looked down and realized that I had been splattered all over with little red flecks. The ketchup!

When she told me it was just ketchup, I was so relieved! I thought she was hurt and I can’t stand the sight of blood. I faint every time.

You should get used to it, cause today it’s Ketchup Day at Chez Bruno! Everyone who comes by gets a ketchup costume for free. Don’t miss it!

How he do that?

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Hello Pandas,

What a weekend! So many Pandas came to the beach to check out the eclipse. I always changed my glasses from one pair to another, you know, just to look cool. Jay Pea will be at the beach for the rest of the day, but then he’s off to new lands…

Max and I are busy tracking down one of Panfu’s most well-guarded secrets – fat-free fries! We got to meet Bruno, the head of Chez Bruno, who told us that he would be celebrating his restaurant’s one-year anniversary and serving up some delicious fries.

It’s really amazing that he can even make chips without frying oil. I never would have thought such a thing could be possible! Ella and I just have to get to the bottom of this. Maybe he hangs them up to dry on a tree…but then he would need lots of trees…

French fries without fat must be fried in something healthy. Maybe they’re simply fried in carrot juice instead of oil! But then they would taste like carrots. Gross.

What do you think? Any ideas on how he made them so healthy? We keep bugging him to tell us, but he won’t reveal the secret recipe. But we’re allowed to guess!

Be good Pandas,

Max and Ella

P.S. – What do you think of the giant French fry decorations outside Chez Bruno? Cool, eh?

The curly-headed chef

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Hey Pandas!

Have you been enjoying the eclipse? Cool, eh? Did you see anything cool through your sunglasses?

I’m sure you wanna know now what happened with our Chez Bruno adventure. Well, you don’t have to wait one second more!

Ella and I snuck up to the Chez Bruno kitchen window on Thursday night just to take a look. We couldn’t believe what we saw – chips! Everywhere! After we had knocked on the window, we saw the chef – a fiery, red-headed fellow. That was a scare.

Yeah, he stormed right up to the window.

As he opened it, we were sure we’d get yelled at, but something else happened: “Max and Ella! The Panfu super reporters! Nice of you two to visit! Come in, I’m just making some French fries.”

We were totally confused. We didn’t expect him to be so nice! He brought us to the kitchen and introduced himself. His name is Bruno, not Luigi, as we thought before.

Bruno then told us about his search for the perfect fat-free and delicious French fries. For weeks, he sweated it out in the kitchen, baking up batches of fries until he was seeing chips everywhere. But finally he did it, and is quite proud of his creation – delicious, fat-free fries!

Before coming to Panfu, he worked at a little diner. His frying pan was so gigantic that it barely fit in the kitchen. The whole kitchen had to be cleaned constantly because of all the greasy fat everywhere and Bruno called it quits one day because he had had enough. Here’s a pictures of him from back then:

Afterwards, Bruno decided to open up his own shop and sell his tasty chips. He said that Panfu was the perfect location and he’s been here now for about a year. Actually, next week he’ll celebrate his one-year anniversary! I’m excited to see what he’ll do to celebrate!

Friday is Gold Panda and Level Day!

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Hey Pandas,

Let’s get right down to it – today, Friday, is LEVEL DAY and GOLD PANDA DAY! Not only that, there’s supposed to be an eclipse on the beach starting today.

The planet where our alien friends live will be in orbit exactly between Panfu and the sun. As Professor Bookworm already said, this kind of thing only happens once in a millennium. I guess we should thank our friends Nui and Tawui.

Max, I don’t believe that a couple of aliens could have much influence over the movement of their own planet.

Hey, who knows? I’ve collected four pairs of glasses already from Jay Pea. How about you, Pandas? Be sure to wear them when you’re on the beach. I’ve heard that we may be able to see some sort of special sign or signal that is normally hidden.

Speaking of hidden, has anyone else noticed that the chef has been missing at the restaurant for some time? But someone has to be working there. I mean, I get served fresh food every day when I stop by for lunch…

Maybe there’s something amiss? Magic? Intrigue? An eating competition in Japan?  The owner’s name is Luigi. Let us know if you see him!

Ella and I snuck into the back of the restaurant yesterday and saw the strangest sight…piles of French fries! Everywhere! They looked soooo good! Then I knocked on the window and some crazy-looking Panda with big, red hair stared at me. It was terrifying!

We’ll tell you more about it tomorrow! Enjoy the day!

Be good Pandas,

Max and Ella
